As the holiday season approaches, Newport, Rhode Island, transforms into a festive wonderland, with its historic mansions adorned in seasonal splendor. From November 22, 2024, to January 1, 2025, the Preservation Society of Newport County invites visitors to experience Holidays at the Newport Mansions, a cherished tradition that brings the Gilded Age to life with holiday cheer.
The Breakers, Marble House, The Elms, and, for the first time in 25 years, Chateau-sur-Mer, will be lavishly decorated, each showcasing nearly 30 Christmas trees that complement the unique décor and themes of their rooms. The centerpiece is a 15-foot-tall poinsettia tree in The Breakers' Great Hall, surrounded by hundreds of poinsettias, garlands, wreaths, and fresh floral arrangements, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
One of the highlights of the season is Sparkling Lights at The Breakers, an outdoor spectacle running from November 22 to December 29, 2024. The 13-acre landscape of The Breakers is transformed into a wonderland of color and light, offering a magical experience for visitors of all ages. Admission times are at 4 pm, 4:30 pm, 5 pm, 5:30 pm, and 6 pm, with gates closing at 6:30 pm and the house and grounds closing at 8 pm. Tickets range from $10 to $40 and include access to the lavishly decorated rooms inside the mansion.
For a unique dining experience, the Chinese Tea House, located on the back lawn of Marble House and overlooking the ocean, offers a three-course holiday brunch by Stoneacre Brasserie. The menu includes a three-tier tea tower, an entrée selection, and assorted desserts, with complimentary tea service. Specialty cocktails and wines are available for purchase, providing a delightful culinary experience in an unmatched setting.
Admission for daytime house tours during the holiday period is available through regular tickets: The Breakers, One-House, Duo, or Trio. These tickets are valid for any date and time the mansions are open and can be purchased online or in person. Please note that all houses are closed on Thanksgiving Day (November 28) and Christmas Day (December 25), and on December 24, all houses close at 2 pm. Additionally, Rosecliff will be open daily from December 9 to January 1 but will not be decorated for the holidays.
